Management integree of the zones cotieres (GIZC)

la gizc

This Inter-Département Manche – Ille-et-Vilaine Association decided to answer the call for projects on the integrated management of coastal areas , by the DATAR, and this with the aim of creating a new method of handling long-term management of the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel.

The institutional, statutory and cultural complexity of this territory, result in a lack of identity, adherence and appropriation among those involved. Nevertheless, the wealth of the Bay’s heritage and the various projects that have already been stimulated, has pushed the départements of the Manche and Ille-et-Vilaine to commit themselves to a joint approach for the protection and enhancement of the Bay.

Having undergone the experience of working as partners on a coastal township scale for the implementation of the Important Site Campaign, the two departments wish to continue this development process with local authorities and government services, over a wider area of 5 catchment areas , thus taking the interdependence of the maritime environment, the coastal fringe and the coastal hinterland into account.
