The Syndicat Mixte “Espaces Littoraux de la Manche” (“Coastal Areas of la Manche” mixed association)

The main purpose of the Sy.M.E.L is to manage the protected sites of the coast in the Département of la Manche.

On the basis of the skills acquired in this field since the eighties, the Sy.M.E.L has been entrusted on agreement, with the combined management of the sites of the Conservatoire de l’Espace du Littoral and the Sensitive Natural Areas of the Département of la Manche.

The Sy.M.E.L is a management team serving an important natural heritage that is accessible to a wide public. Among others, it employs the coastguards who ensure the follow up, maintenance and management of these sites.

The Conservatoire de l’Espace Littoral and the Rivages Lacustres (Organisation for the protection of coastal and lakeside shores)

The Conservatoire du Littoral is a state establishment, created on the basis of the law of 10 July 1975, the aim of which was to ensure the permanent protection of remarkable nature sites on the French coast. Today, the purchases made made by the Conservatoire du Littoral sustain 66,700 hectares of land, which can be divided into 485 sites and represents a linear measurment of 900 km of coast on a long-term basis.
