In the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel, the GR® 223 takes you through salt meadows, grazed by flocks of sheep and runs along the long shores, which, at low tide, attract thousands of birds such as Brent geese. To the north of the Bay; the GR® 223 overhangs the cliffs of Champeaux and the view there is magnificent !

GR® 34
While going towards Brittany

The route continues along the coast of Brittany following the GR® 34. This provides panoramic views of the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel which lives to the rhythm of the tidal flow.

You will be able to discover the landscape inland on the secondary paths (white marshes, Saint-Broladre massif) as far as Dol-de-Bretagne until Mont-Dol on the green path.

The GR® 223 and 34 - From One Bay to Another

The "sentiers des douaniers" (customs officer patrol paths) were set up in the 17th century for the surveillance of the coast.

GR® 223
If you walk along the GR® 233 (long distance path) you will be taking the paths which run along the shores, beaches and cliffs of the Département and which are dotted with huts and shelters such as the "Cabanes Vauban" (guardrooms) built on the recommendation of this famous military engineer at the time of Louis XIV. You can explore the Manche, the Bay of Veys and the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel via this Long Distance Rambler’s footpath.
