TO KNOW SOME MORE

The BAY, WORLD INHERITANCE Of UNESCO

The bay is classified with the world inheritance of UNESCO since 1979.

According to the World Heritage Convention (1972), currently ratified by 170 countries, a communal property listed under cultural heritage designates a site of scientific, aesthetic or conservational (fauna and flora) value with an exceptional physical, biological and geological feature.
The world heritage title does not correspond to a regulation as such, but more a timeless recognition of the specific interest of a monument or a site.
The Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel has been recorded on this list since 1979. The recognition of the patrimonial value of the Bay, as much for its landscapes as its natural environment, incites the government and its partners to be vigilant about the conservation and the management of this site.
The OGS (important site campaign) is the first sponsored project to confirm France’s commitments in this respect.
